Hello and Warm Greetings to All!
I’m thrilled to welcome you to the newly revamped website of The Friar Society, a platform where prospective applicants, current members, and our esteemed alumni can stay updated on the latest happenings and initiatives of our Society. I’m Steven Santoyo, the current Abbot of The Friar Society, and I’m here to guide you through what we have in store for you on our new website.
A bit about myself: I am a proud alumnus of UT-Austin, where I completed my undergraduate degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Government. My academic journey continued at Southern Methodist University (SMU), where I earned a Master of Education, and I’m currently wrapping up my Master of Public Affairs at The LBJ School at UT-Austin, set to graduate this May.
My induction into The Friar Society in Spring 2018 was a significant milestone, recognizing my contributions to The University of Texas through the creation of Type Texas: The College Diabetes Network Chapter at UT-Austin. This organization, close to my heart, aims to connect, inspire, and empower individuals on-campus living with Type-1 Diabetes. You can read more about my journey and contributions here.
As Abbot, I’ve had the privilege of steering our organization in various capacities, both internally and externally. Collaborating closely with the Friar Alumni Network, I’ve been involved in securing venues for our reunion events and expanding our outreach efforts for recruitment seasons. Beyond my role in The Friar Society, I’ve been a teaching assistant on campus, lead the current student softball team at The LBJ School, and have experience as a middle school and high school teacher.
