The Tany Norwood Award – Fall Only

Celebrating Exceptional Staff with The Tany Norwood Award: Each year, The Friar Society honors a remarkable staff member with the Tany Norwood Award. Nominations and selections are conducted internally, with the announcement and award presentation taking place at our Fall 2025 Reunion Weekend. The recipient is invited to deliver a 5-7 minute presentation, showcasing their invaluable contributions to our community. The 2026 Tany Norwood Award Recipient will be announced in November 2026.

The Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA)

Honoring Our Alumni with The Distinguished Alumni Award: The Distinguished Alumni Award is a prestigious recognition given to an outstanding alumnus. Nominations are solicited from our cloister, and the selection process is internal. The awardee is announced at our fall event and is featured as a speaker at the spring breakfast. This award is a testament to the remarkable achievements of our alumni and their enduring impact. The 2025 Distinguished Alumuni Award will be announced in February 2026.

The Friar Centennial Teaching Fellowship (FCTF) – Spring Only

The Friar Centennial Teaching Fellowship – Recognizing Academic Excellence: Managed by the FCTF Chair, this award honors exceptional teaching and academic leadership. The nomination period opens each semester, with all members participating in the review. Three semi-finalists are selected, further evaluated through teaching statements, references, and class visits. After a rigorous second meeting and vote, the finalists are presented to the Provost’s Office for approval. The awardee is announced at the Spring cocktail event, where they are invited to deliver a 20-minute presentation. This accolade is a celebration of educational dedication and excellence.
